Acrylic + Mixed Media on Canvas
A work from the Repair Series, this piece was created in Caley's Gowanus studio in 2025. Inspired by the delicate resilience of forget me nots, the artwork features a vibrant palette and incorporates strips of the artist's personal journal embedded within the surface. The words are deliberately obscured by layers of paint, hinting at a hidden, lived history and the process of transformation and repair.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Repair is a painting series centered on healing after fragmentation. The work explores how life experiences are absorbed and integrated over time into a ones existence, becoming part of who we are and how we move through the world. Rather than polishing out the difficult moments or smoothing over what feels unresolved, the series honors these parts as existing alongside moments of beauty and ease. In this way, repair is understood as honoring the full picture rather than editing it down. The paintings begin as abstract floral forms built from layered color and texture, with an ethereal, atmospheric quality. During the process, when Adams reaches a point where a section no longer feels right, she resists the impulse to overwork or control the surface. Instead, she adds new layers on top with large swaths of paint or paper applied directly onto the surface, acting as bandages embedded into the work. At times, these paper elements carry her own writing and reflections from the period in which the painting was made. Across the series, these acts of repair remain visible and become integral to the composition.
More Info
Please note that these works are intentionally imperfect. Visible marks, layered textures, and embedded materials are integral to each painting and are not considered flaws or defects. Elements such as dust, fibers, and evidence of revision are purposefully left in the surface as records of the work’s making over time. Rather than aiming for a polished or pristine finish, these paintings embrace messiness, transformation, and human touch as essential parts of their meaning. Each piece reflects a process of evolution rather than refinement, and should be understood as complete in its irregularity. Each artwork comes with an official packet containing: Certificate of Authenticity, business card, postcard, and bio sheet.
